In the 20 th century, a big event for the Castle and village was the adoption of the name Duras by the young writer Marguerite Duras. She wrote her first novel “Les impudent”, extolling the beauty of the landscape of her youth, and became famous as Marguerite Duras.
Marguerite Duras is internationally known as an author, scriptwriter, and director.
Shortly after the death of the author in 1997, a local society was formed in her honour which perpetuates her connection with Lot-et-Garonne.
In May, each year, the Castle hosts a Marguerite Duras festival, organized by the Society. A nationally-recognized literary prize, sponsored by the County Council, is awarded to a deserving new talent.
Days Marguerite Duras take place on 31 May, 1 and 2 June 2013.
